The
Big Walnut School system combines the facilities and
course offerings of larger school systems with the intimacy
and small town setting of a rural district. The Big Walnut
School system covers the majority of of Porter, Kingston,
Trenton, Harlem Townships, and the Villages of Sunbury and
Galena.
Three separate
elementary schools feed one junior high school (Big Walnut
Middle School) and one high school, both located in the
village of Sunbury. The elementary schools enjoy a strong
parent teacher association and each elementary school has
a unique sense of community and identity.
Big
Walnut school activities enjoy a position as the focal point
of civic and social life in Sunbury, and there is a wholesome
sense of community througout all of the school's many extra-cirricular
activities.
Big Walnut is
part of the prestigious Ohio Capital Confernence in athletics,
and is a member of an active consortium of high schools
for academics, purchasing a accreditation purposes.
Students
of the Big Walnut district have consistently improved on
the Ohio Department of Education's proficiency tests, and
the School Board and Administration have a strategic plan
in place to ensure that Big Walnut continues to excel at
getting students ready for graduation, and life after school.
Big Walnut graduates
attend a wide variety of college and vocational activities,
and are postioned to pursue virtually any vocation in life!
